Jenny ofΒ Jayne VS Books, Rexy ofΒ Reading Rexy, Cath ofΒ To All The Books I’ve Read Before, Elena ofΒ The Queen Reads, Krish of @krish.reads on IGΒ and I agreed on something awesomesauce!

We decided to host a Feminist Readathon for the month of February. Few days ago it flooded the twitterverse that Emma Watson just made a bookclubΒ Our Shared ShelfΒ tackling books about Feminism or about women in general and equality. I immediately joined, of course.

Because of this, an inspiration hit me like a wrecking ball! Haha! I don’t have a copy of the book Emma Watson chose for the book club, but because I want to read these kinds of books so much and wanted to contribute to this great cause, I did something quite similar to it. I conspired with the girls to read Feminist books this February! When I proposed…

Latenight Confession

Forgive me reader for I have sinned.Β My last post was last September.

HAHAHAHA Although not many people read this blog, I still feel guilty and ashamed because my last post was five months ag0. 😦

I blame the following:

  1. Acads. (I’m a college student and sometimes that sucks. Enough said.)
  2. Laptop Probs (I have a laptop but it’s so BIG lol. It’s a pain carrying it back and forth between my dorm and my home. + WordPress’s app on my iPad + Android phone isn’t very user friendly)
  3. Laziness + lack of dedication (Probably the most accurate reason of all, hehe.)

To be fair to myself, (because I still feel guilty, hehe) I wasn’t 100% unproductive with the 3rd quarter of my 2015 reading life. I didn’t blog from September-December but…I did achieve this πŸ˜‰

12463867_1142126599131795_1684910820_n

Hehe. Yep, I read. And read. And read some more. Β Granted, many of my 2015 books are Harlequin shorts-yaknow, those books with shirtless men Β + sexy women on the cover grannies read…but a book is a book. Haha.

I didn’t blog and I became a bit inactive in bookstagram..but I did read 116 out of my goal of 100 books this year so I gopt that going for me, which is nice. HEHE.

Anyway, I’m typing this (and I finally blogged, alleluiah!) because I was inspired by my friend Jenny’s foray into creating a blog here in WordPress a few days ago (Check her out!) πŸ™‚

I sincerely hope I’ll be able to update this blog more often this 2016.

Here’s some cupcakes I baked for you!

Thanks for reading this! πŸ˜‰

Trickster by Randall Potts

Processed with VSCOcam with m5 preset

TITLE: Trickster

AUTHOR: Randall Potts

PUBLISHER: University of Iowa Press

NO. OF PAGES: 92

DATE READ: January 25, 2015

SYNOPSIS: *from Goodreads*

Trickster opens with a crank call to the reader: β€œHow was I to know / You were thin, your garden / Was covered in smoke / That you sat in your house / Coughing?” Over the course of these beautiful and eerily accomplished poems, Potts’s reader is taken on a journey that is at once time-scarred and resolutely contemporary, earthy and haunted, moving from estrangement to reconciliation. Amidst a deepening sense of crisis, the Trickster of Potts’s imagination emerges as aggressor, prankster, victim, and healer, forging resilient music from the afflictions of the mind’s β€œinfested nest.”

Trickster veers quickly from meditation and narrative to song, plunging the reader into a liminal world of dreams, archaic lyrics, and fables, populated with figures ranging from the Hawk and Worm, the Cat and Dove, to Cold and Death. It is a wilderness in which all things are alive: β€œa blade of grass / equal to the suffering / of a lifetime.” Yet it is also a place of menace, β€œwhere a fly with one wing, keeps / tipping over in the grass, where / the ants will have him.” Whether or not the Trickster reaches utopia, he reckons with the world that is achievable on earth and in words, β€œthose dreams of woods / relayed to you.”
